Color Classifictation

Hi,

I have a rgb histogram of colors of an object. I need to determine the color of this object. I intend to have a predefined set of colors like red, green, blue, violet, yellow, orange and red. My approach to classify the color of the object is to find the probability of each of the predefined colors occurring in the histogram of the object. Whichever has the highest probability, that would be the color of the object. It seems to be very simple. My question is whether this is a decent approach to the color classification problem.
