Minimum Illumination for CCD camera

akshayj - Posted on 29 December 2011

Hello All,

I am developing an Image Processing system that requires to capture images coming from a video camera (with Field of View 2.1 deg)rotating at 6deg/sec. To capture the images without motion blur I need a shutter speed of 1/10000sec.

Now at this shutter speed the images that I am capturing are very noisy.

Therefore, to buy a camera with high sensitivity I need a relation between the sensitivity of a camera (in lux) and F-number, shutter speed and scene luminance(in lux).

The f-number of my camera is 1.6 and SNR is 50db.

Or should I go for a camera with higher SNR.

Searching over the net I found a relation
Exposure Value(EV)= Log[(f-number)*(f-number)/Shutter Speed]
