Imaging & Computer Vision
MERL is seeking qualified applicants for a Post Doc or Visiting Scientist position in the Imaging and Computer Vision Group. This group pursues cutting-edge research concerning information capture / extraction / analysis and display including computer vision, computational photography, multi-projector systems, image processing, machine learning, and 3D graphics & modeling. This group contributes to and maintains strong connections in these research communities, and also applies its specialized knowledge to challenging industrial problems in safety and security, robotics, medicine, retail systems, automobiles, large and small displays, and building systems.
The successful candidate will be primarily expected to take over and extend a project dealing with the 3D simulation of camera security systems. The candidate will also be involved with MERL’s Ambient Intelligence Project. Further qualifications are detailed below.
Responsibilities:
* Manage all aspects of a 1-person project concerning a 3D simulator to aid security camera system design. These aspects include research on performance measures, maintenance and extension of the existing software, and design of project architecture and UI. Learn about existing Mitsubishi Electric businesses and consider their needs when defining project plans. Collaborate with Mitsubishi labs in Japan to transfer information (both ways!), prototypes, and code.
* Publish results in peer-reviewed venues.
* Contribute to other research projects within the Imaging Group.
* Assist in preparing your patent applications.
Qualifications:
* M.A. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related area.
* Excellent programming skills (C/C++, OpenGL, etc) are required.
* Software development product experience (solid architecture skills, code & release management.)
* Documented track record of creative innovation and of developing and conducting successful research projects.
* Applicant must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and balance workload among different projects. Good presentation and written skills are expected.
