Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA), a national leader in scientific and engineering research and development, is seeking a Computer Vision Research Scientist to join our Information Exploitation Group in Raleigh, NC. This position requires a thorough understanding of the state of the art methodologies and practices in computer vision. The position will involve the following technology areas: (1) design and implementation of video enhanced navigation systems, (2) real-time image georegistration, and (3) hardware and software prototype systems for enhancing and interpreting EO/IR surveillance video understanding. This work will support ARA’s rapidly growing defense intelligence business area in battlefield ISR and ATR.

Job Requirements :

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, with particular emphasis in Computer Vision. PhD desired.
  • MS degree holders must have a minimum of 7 years of demonstrated expertise. PhD degree holders must have minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience (i.e. dissertation, published research, patents, and/or prototyped system) in at least one of the following: video/inertial-based GPS-denied navigation, real-time image stabilization and georegistration, EO/IR surveillance video understanding.
  • Solid algorithm development experience using Matlab and/or C/C++. Experience working with MEX files, MS Visual Studio, and OpenCV are pluses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of experimental methods, measurement instrumentation, test planning, data collection, and sensor hardware system design related to the technologies cited above are significant pluses.
  • Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills: proposals, conference proceedings, publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • US citizenship (Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.)
  • Experience with military sensing applications for DoD agencies (e.g., DARPA, ONR, NGA, DTRA) are pluses.
