Working title: Research Specialist

Official title: RESEARCH SPECIALIST(T16DN) or ASSOC RESEARCH SPEC(T16FN)

Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelors degree in a quantitative or technical field such as computer sciences or mathematics preferred. Degrees in life sciences or psychology also considered.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Proficiency with Linux and one or more programming languages required. Ability to both create and use data management tools are required, including intermediate database design in desktop (e.g. MySQL, MS Access) or web frameworks (Ruby on Rails). Experience in image analysis is preferred. Familiarity using image analysis software such as Matlab, SPM, FSL, & AFNI is preferred. The applicant should have the flexibility to work both independently and cooperatively, and should understand research data, objectives and analyses.

Principal duties:

The candidate will be engaged in the support of cutting edge neuroimaging research studies in early Alzheimer's Disease, aging and brain injury. This position requires analytic thinking and the ability to apply technical innovation to clinically relevant problems. The primary duties include but are not limited to:

Image and Cognitive Data Processing (~40%)
* Use existing Python and Ruby tools developed in the lab to pre-process MRI and PET images and other data in support of specific research questions.
* Improve and further develop Python & Ruby tools to adapt to new imaging protocols, processing methods or other requirements.

Management of Research Data (~40%)
* Ensure that processed imaging and cognitive data are catalogued and readily accessible by scientists and collaborators in a timely manner.
* Serve as primary technical contact for PIs and scientists in the group to meet their specific data needs and keep track of incoming available raw and processed imaging and cognitive data.
* Implement and maintain data quality procedures.

Supporting Research Staff (~15%)
* Learn and disseminate knowledge of new research methods.
* Train staff, students and collaborators on existing procedures and provide documentation and direction for lab procedures.

Presentation and Publication of New Findings (~5%)
* Prepare data for presentation at scientific meetings and manuscript publication.
