Position Description:
ITT is seeking a Senior Staff Computer Vision Scientist to join our Space Systems Division in northern Virginia.
Our Computer Vision Scientists are responsible for researching and developing advanced technical algorithms in the areas of image and video processing, computer vision, multi-sensor fusion, video exploitation, and image dissemination.
The successful candidate will have expertise and be a technical leader in the areas of 3-D object modeling, feature extraction, target recognition, multiple target tracking, aerial- and space-based imaging systems, and persistent surveillance. The candidate will be responsible for rapidly prototyping algorithm software and interacting with a broad team of systems, software, and hardware engineers. Extensive technical knowledge is required to instill confidence and trust in proposed solutions. Developed application solutions will receive high visibility to a wide audience, including customers and senior management. The successful candidate must have current knowledge of the state-of-the-art and a proven track record of leading, performing, and publishing original research in the field of computer vision.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Researches, develops, and implements advanced algorithm solutions for various computer vision applications.
- Authors design documents, proposals, and other technical articles, conferring with senior management, engineering personnel, and customer representatives.
- Develops basic design ideas and methods of approach and proposes improvements or modifications to the basic design ideas and methods which would be more effective and involve less risk.
- Contributes to theoretical studies of involved technical subjects that find wide application to design problems or that are required where previous methods and techniques have not produced satisfactory results.
- Provides analysis and consultation to highly complex technical problems encountered by engineering.
- Perform special assignments as requested. May be required to perform other assignments which are normally related to the work of higher or lower engineering classifications.
- Mentors junior level engineers as needed.
This position could involve work at a customer site in the Washington DC / northern Virginia area. Business related travel up to 25% is anticipated.
Experience Requirements:
Requires B.S. degree, preferably in Engineering or in a technical area of science and research with 10-15 years work experience or a MS degree with 8+ years work experience, or a PhD with 5+ years work experience.
Detailed knowledge and experience in the following areas is desired:
- C/C++ Programming
- Detection and Estimation Theory (MAP estimation, ML estimation)
- Multiple Target Tracking (Kalman filtering, particle filtering, MHT)
- Probabilistic Modeling Techniques (hidden Markov modeling, Bayesian networks)
- Wavelet Processing and Analysis
- Invariant Feature Extraction and Matching
- GMTI/EO/IR/SAR/LIDAR Collection and Processing Systems
