About Me

My principal areas of research are computer vision and robotics with the application to Minimally Invasive (keyhole) Surgery (MIS) and robotic assisted surgery. My current research is specifically focused on Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) and tracking natural features in images.
In SLAM the position of a camera is estimated while simultaneously building a map of the surrounding environment. It is closely related to Structure From Motion and has applications in autonomous robotics, wearable computing, gaming devices, augmented reality, registration and many others. My research is focused on SLAM inside the human body. This presents a number of research challenges including the theoretical treatment of tissue deformation.
